Customer Review #1:
Recommended for anyone who owns a dog
I was given this book by a good friend who said she had tried, but simply could not get into it. Having nothing else to read I figured why not, and after three pages could not figure out what it was that she wasnt enjoying. After a while I realized what it must be - that I am a dog owner and my friend was not. Therefore, I would not be surprised to find out that some of my fellow, not so impressed reviewers, were, like my friend, not dog owners too. This is a fun, easy, must read for every dog owner that will have you laughing not only at the prose, but also at your own ridiculous pet. Read it!

Customer Review #2:
Perfect light read
When I picked this book up because, hey, I like dogs, and I had also heard from my parents that Peter Mayle was a very entertaining author, I thought that it might be something to just use as a diversion, like one would a magazine. I was very impressed! In fact, contrary to the thoughts of another reviewer on here, I think this is my favorite book by Mayle. Perhaps it is because Im a dog person that I like it so much, but I really felt that this book was touching and funny and everything I would want in a light read. I havent been as able to get into Mayles other works, but I was immediately immersed in this one. On less subjective notes, Mayles use of language is excellent and the structure of the book is very pleasing, particularly to those of us who dont mind a little anthropomorphic bits in our lives here and there. Dont fool yourself, if you are thinking this will take any extra time to read, in fact, the book just whizzes by so fast, I was certainly left wanting more when I finished. Also, if youre depressed, this book will make you smile when you dont even think you could.

Customer Review #3:
Fun and mindless
This book is, of course, a tale told from the perspective of Peter Mayles dog Boy. Given that information, you know its more than a wee bit cutesy. But Peter Mayle is good--he keeps the book from being so pink you need the Pepto-Bismol. Dog lovers cant help but enjoy it, because we too are more than a wee bit cutesy about our canines. Quick, relaxing read for a quiet evening.
