Accident: It was no accident

"She doesnt look like shes going to make it." Danielle Steeles Accident revolves around how a car accident forever changes the lives of two families. This novel is chick fiction because it involves love and courage. Steele did a great job of bringing all the characters to life.
The tragedy begins when two perfect teenage girls lie to their parents and go out with two older guys. On their way home they collide with another car head-on. Page, the mother of one of the girls, discovers her daughter may not live and her husband is having an affair. Trygve, the other girls dad, becomes the only one to comfort Page. They develop a great relationship while battling their daughters accident.
The setting works very well. Maintaining smooth and obvious shifts made the setting clear and easy to follow. The story takes place in Ross, a small town near San Francisco, California. The car accident occurs when the couples "[drive] quietly and smoothly toward the Golden Gate Bridge". Medical teams rush the teenagers to Marin General Hospital where most of the story takes place because of the girls conditions.
The characters are incredibly realistic and relatable. Page Clarke and Trygve Thorensen become the protagonists in the novel. Page, the thirty-nine year old mother of Andy and Allyson, "is a good mother, a good wife, the kind of friend anyone would be grateful for...she is unconsciously beautiful, and fun to be with." Trygve, the father of Chloe and a divorcee, " is patient, kind, and very attractive." Chloe Thorensen and Allyson Clarke, static characters, are fifteen year old best friends who lie to their parents to go out with two older guys. Allyson remains in a critical coma after the accident, and Chloe suffers severely injured legs. Brad Clarke, static character and antagonist, is Pages husband and Allysons dad who is caught in an affair. Many of the characters face the decisions of courage, love, and loyalty. Steele brings all of them to life amazingly well.
The novel, told in third person omniscient, revolves around Page Clarkes life. When Allyson and Chloe become seriously injured, everyones lives change drastically. All of the events make the story completely believable; a car accident, a marriage gone wrong, and a mothers sorrow while trying to keep her family and her life together. Steele foreshadows Brads affair when he unexpectedly leaves on a business trip with his secretary without leaving the number of his hotel. Page flashes back to how she held a perfect marriage and life before the accident. Steele did a great job of introducing all the characters and wrapping everything up at the end without leaving the reader hanging.
While using everyday language, Steele involves all the emotions. The reader will want to smile, cry, laugh, or frown. Intenseness and sadness occur when Allyson remains in the hospital and no one knows whether she will live or not. Disgust, guilt, and misery rise between Brad and Page while they go through confrontations about the affair. The writing involves love, romance, and inspiration while Page and Trygve fall for each other. This type of language makes the novel more intriguing and suspicious. The reader never knows what will happen next.
Accident is a powerful, yet glorious novel about lives that shatter and change in one shocking moment. The beginning conveys Pages "perfect life", then disaster occurs and the rest of the story just pulls the readers hearts right into it. Teenage girls and women will absolutely love this book.

Accident > Customer Review #2:
emotional, engrossing reading

The novel, Accident, written by Daniel Steel is fast paced and heart stopping. This book is about two girls, Allyson and Chloe, who lie to their parents to go out with older boys. They go out in one of the boys cars and get into an accident. Page Clark, Allysons mother, rushed to the hospital to see what happened. Her husband, Brad, is once again out of town on a business trip, but this time he did not leave a phone number where she can contact him. This not only makes Page upset because she cannot let her husband know that their daughter was in an accident, but also confused because she doesnt know what he might really be doing. Page is stuck at the hospital, alone, trying to deal with the fact that Allyson may not survive. That is, until she meets Trygve, Chloes father, who stays with Page as much as he can to give her the support she needs. As they become closer friends, Brad is still no where to be found, and the doctors dont know what will happen to Allyson.

The book Accident is a very engrossing book. I found myself reading a little bit of it before going to bed. I would put the book away and crawl into bed. Within a few minutes, I was out of bed, had the light on, and was reading more of the book. Daniel Steel did an excellent job of bringing the characters to life. She made the main character, Page, soemone that anyone can relate to in some way or another. This book in not just some sappy romance novel, it is a book that brings out all of the human emotions. At some parts I was crying, laughing, angry, smiling, upset, disapointed, confused, and wondering. This boook always keep you wondering on what will happen next. Accident is an outstanding book that I reccommend to everyone.

Accident > Customer Review #3:
Accident

Pages passion to paint never got her anywhere in live, except away from her crazy mother and sister. But when her painting took her to California Page knew it was a good move. While there Page meet and married Brad, the love of her life, the perfect man. They were perfect for each other, they could practically finish each others sentences. Page and Brad had two kids Allie, 15, and Andy, 8. Life couldnt get any better, but in the blink on an eye it can totally change.
Allie had taken a change that had landed her in a coma. Page had thought that Allie and Chole, her best friend, were going out with Choles father that night. After waiting up for an hour after Allies curfew the phone call came. There had been an accident, a bad one, the driver had been killed. Page rushed to the hospital to find that Choles dad hadnt been the driver. Allie and Chole had lied to their parents; they were out with boys.
This book main focus is on Page and Brads relationship because Brad left for a "business" trip the night of Allies accident and Page could not reach him. She soon came to find out that Brad had been cheating on her, sleeping with a girl from the office. Pages only support though the whole battle was Choles newly divorced father, Tryvge. Brad cant face the fact that he may soon lose his daughter so he goes to the hospital once a week to check on her. The divorce of Page and Brad is predictable in this book and so is the relationship that blossoms between Tryvge and Page.
Although this book has no real depth or meaning to it, it was still one of the best books Ive read. The characters are well planned out and easy to identify. The plot is very intense and makes you want to keep reading to find out what really is going to happen next. This book may have been written for older people but I think that any female that can enjoy a good romance novel could read Accident by Danielle Steel.
