 good book good publisher
the first copy I got had pages missing and repeat pages etc... but hay things happen. and PeachPit (the publisher) was great. I sent them an email and the next morning a New copy was sitting on the porch from Fed Ex... great customer service. they turned an unfortunate mistake into a great customer service example. the book also is great for people like me that want to learn shake but cant affort to throw down a few grand to buy it, or goto training courses. you will deffinatly get your moneys worth from this book.

It gets you right where you want to be
When you know nothing about shake, you will get to know something about everything shake has to offer. The author doesnt dwell on his favorite topics, but gives a broad insight on the tricks of the trade. What variables are there and thru which parameters they can be ajusted to create the effect you are looking for. Whether it is compositing, keying, painting, animating or everything together.
The author doesnt show off his knowledge and keeps you alert, at times, with his sense of humor
Place yourself behind your mac, install the shake demo that comes with the book and tell your family and friends that you will be away for an exiting trip, for some time. With the book as a guide and your creativity, curiosity and courage to step off the path, and experiment, you will figure Shake out to great extent.

 I kinda learned to key, but. . .
Where are the DVCreators.net guys to do teach people really how to use Shake?!! I went thru the book, and if you to ask me to do a project right now using Shake, I wouldnt get anything done!! Other than Keying, the lessons just told you do this or that without any real rhyme or reason. No Powertips to be found at all. I am an photographer, graphic designer, and video director and editor and was able to find out how to use Photoshop, FCP, After Effects, Illustrator, ETC by just reading good books and not paying for classes. Unfortunately for people trying to learn Shake, we have a poorly written piece of garbage only(havent taken the CMI Studio DVDs-yet).When I got the FCP Startup CDs, I knew nothing of using FCP and came out ready to edit any project because the teaching was that good-cant say the same about this. To add insult to injury, the lessons are just plain boring!!! They say that after you are done with this book, you can be ready to take an Apple certified class--what they forgot to tell you is that you are going to FLUNK!!!
