Amazing Gracie: A Dogs Tale > Customer Review #1:
Dog lovers delight!

Amazing Gracie is a wonderful story about a deaf, partially blind, albino Great Dane. Her story is told with humor by Dan Dye and Mark Beckloff, and whimsically illustrated by Meg Cundiff. This book, written sensitively, but without melodrama, will make you laugh, rejoice, cheer and cry. It is also the story of the beginnings of the wonderful bakery for dogs, Three Dog Bakery. Humorous parts include Gracies first day in her new home, Dans dress shoes, and what the dogs were possibly thinking at stategic moments in the story. Since this is a book about Gracies entire life, it naturally includes the end of her shining light. Be prepared to cry. This is a book that will last in my mind for a long time!

I love this book!!!

This the most wonderful dog book--it is probably the funniest, sweetest, and most touching dog book that I have ever read (and Ive read lots of them) about the special human-dog bond and how much a dog can bring to their humans life. This book is beautifully written with whimsical illustrations and a "photo album" of the "three girls"--Gracie, Sarah, and Dottie for which the Three Dog Bakery was named--this book is just superb! One word of caution though--be prepared for the emotional ending--I dont think I have cried this hard while reading a book...ever...but its definitely worth it. Luckily, after reading the books ending, I had the fuzzy shoulder of my own super-special, best-doggie-in-the-world to cry on, which made me feel better right away. This is simply the sweetest dog book, and the co-authors donate all royalties from the book to The Gracie Foundation, a non-profit organization that helps abused and neglected animals. I cant recommend this book enough to all those fellow doggie-lovers out there!

If you love dogs...

...read Amazing Gracie. The book is a quick read, and is by turns funny, entertaining, and philosophical. Reading about Grace Danes introduction to the authors family was enjoyable, and learning how Gracie helped him find his lifes passion gave some depth to the story (as did the 13 pages of photos in "Gracies Album"). However, it was the last chapter of the book that brought home its main point: how deeply and wonderfully this Great Danes life affected those of the people (and dogs) around her. Cynic that I am, I must admit that I cried toward the end of Graces story... The last chapter is bittersweet, but nevertheless Amazing Gracie demonstrates how--and why--our pets improve our quality of life.
